The process of this piece started by adding texture with rotary carving tools. It was then charred in a shou sugi ban technique that has been used in japan for preserving wood siding. Lastly it was embellished with some 24K gold leaf giving the piece a beautiful modern look and feel while leaving the natural elements of the wood to be seen on the inside of the bowl.
